Anthropic’s Strategic Push for Hardware Independence
OpenAI’s Financial Surge Toward New Scales

As a private entity, OpenAI is under no obligation to disclose detailed financial statements, wrapping its performance metrics in a shroud of secrecy. However, indirect data and insider testimonies allow us to reconstruct the actual picture: the startup's annualized revenue has surged past the $40 billion mark. For the industry, this serves as a clear signal that AI services have evolved from a niche market into a full-fledged economic powerhouse.
This meteoric rise—nearly doubling since the end of last year—has been fueled by a strategic diversification of revenue streams. While consumer subscriptions were the primary driver in the early stages, the focus has now shifted toward the enterprise sector. OpenAI has begun aggressively scaling specialized developer tools and implementing business process automation solutions.
Particular success is being seen with AI agents like Codex, which are effectively redefining the paradigm of software development, and ChatGPT Work, designed to optimize routine corporate operations. Simultaneously, the company is employing an aggressive pricing strategy: by lowering the cost of access to several models, they have successfully captured new customer segments that previously viewed AI implementation as cost-prohibitive.
Yet, OpenAI is not the sole beneficiary of this boom. Its competitor, Anthropic, reported annualized revenue of $47 billion as early as this spring. Since then, the company has remained silent, constrained by the strict regulatory requirements of the "quiet period" preceding its planned autumn IPO.
Internal structural shifts are also underway at OpenAI. The appointment of a new Chief Revenue Officer indicates a leadership drive to transition from organic growth toward disciplined financial governance. Company President Greg Brockman has confirmed steady monthly growth exceeding 20%, which, coupled with a $20 billion baseline at the end of last year, explains the current doubling of turnover.
Despite having filed for an IPO, OpenAI will likely postpone its public debut until next year. This is a calculated strategic move: the company aims to avoid competing directly with Anthropic for investment capital during the autumn window, preferring to enter the market at peak capitalization and under minimal competitive pressure.
