The Steam Controller: Horizons of Anticipation
BYD’s New Great Tang Technological Standard

The debut of the BYD Great Tang (known in the domestic market as the Datang) at the Beijing Auto Show sent shockwaves through the industry. The surge in demand was staggering: after recording 30,000 applications within the first 24 hours, pre-orders climbed past 100,000 within two weeks, eventually peaking at 150,000 units. This success is not merely the result of aggressive marketing, but the integration of 29 innovative solutions that transition the vehicle from a simple means of transport into a sophisticated, high-tech gadget on wheels.
The Great Tang's interior is engineered as a comprehensive digital hub. The dashboard is a dedicated command center, featuring three massive displays distributed between the driver, the central control system, and the front passenger, creating a unified digital ecosystem. For those in the rear, a large ceiling-mounted screen transforms the cabin into a mobile cinema or a high-end executive office.
Ergonomics and comfort have been prioritized throughout. The "2 + 2 + 3" cabin configuration establishes this seven-seater crossover as one of the most spacious in its class. Zero-gravity "captain's chairs" come fully loaded with a premium suite of options, ranging from ventilation and heating to integrated massage systems. Added luxuries, such as a built-in refrigerator and folding tables, underscore the model's design philosophy centered on long-distance family travel.
The vehicle's technical prowess is anchored by the BYD Disus-A intelligent control system and a dual-chamber pneumatic suspension. This synergy allows the electronics to adapt chassis stiffness and ride height in real-time, delivering a ride quality comparable to the finest luxury vehicles and ensuring exceptional stability during maneuvers.
The true technological breakthrough, however, lies in the powertrain. The BYD Great Tang is offered in two primary electric configurations. The base Premium EV, equipped with a 105.79 kWh battery, delivers a range of 800 km under the CLTC cycle. Yet, the Flagship EV reveals the vehicle's full potential, utilizing a 130.15 kWh battery to achieve an impressive range of up to 950 km on a single charge.
A revolutionary aspect of the architecture is the implementation of a 1,000V platform. This shift to higher voltage drastically minimizes energy dissipation and accelerates charging speeds. Consequently, the vehicle can replenish its charge from 10% to 70% in just five minutes, with a near-full cycle (up to 97%) taking no more than nine minutes. This effectively eliminates the primary pain point of electric vehicle ownership: the prolonged wait at charging stations.
The Great Tang's dimensions signal its premium aspirations. With a length of 5,263 mm and a wheelbase of 3,130 mm, it not only competes with the Li Auto L9 but surpasses the proportions of rivals like the Hyundai IONIQ 9 and Kia EV9. With a starting price of $35,500 for the base version, BYD is democratizing flagship technology, making it accessible to a far broader consumer base than traditional luxury brands.
