Google's activity is not an isolated incident; rather, it reflects a systemic movement across the Big Tech sector toward owning the underlying naming infrastructure. Amazon has already secured .pay, a logical move for a company striving for dominance in fintech and e-commerce. Simultaneously, DishDBS is vying for .dot, while the non-profit Human-Centered Computing Foundation (HCCF) is attempting to introduce an open-access concept with free registration via the .self zone.

Even Apple, while not applying for full TLDs in this round, is demonstrating a keen interest in nominal semantics by registering the subdomain genai.apple.com. This serves as a clear signal that generative AI is becoming a central pillar of their ecosystem.
